Fidelity Bank Plc has opened a new branch in Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, to improve access to financial services for farmers and small-scale traders in the community.
Residents welcomed the development during the inauguration ceremony held on Thursday in Kamba.
The Chairman of Dandi Local Government Council, Dr. Mansur Isah-Kamba, stated that the absence of a commercial bank in the area had forced residents to travel to Birnin Kebbi to access banking services.
He added that more than 83 traditional rulers on the local government payroll often travelled long distances to resolve salary and transaction issues.
He also mentioned that the new branch would reduce transport costs and time spent on financial transactions.
The chairman, represented by the Council Secretary, Alhaji Abdulkadir Muhammad, said the bank’s presence would support farmers and small and medium-scale enterprise (SME) operators.
He noted that improved access to banking services would strengthen agricultural productivity and local economic activity.
The Sarkin Shikon Kamba, Alhaji Mahmoud Zarumai-Fana, said farming is the main occupation in the area.
He added that most households depend on agriculture for income.
He stated that farmers require inputs such as pumping machines, fertilisers, and pesticides to increase output.
He added that easier access to savings accounts and agricultural loans would help farmers participate in government and private sector intervention programmes.
The Regional Bank Head, North-West, Sokoto, Mr Muhammad Lawal-Ahijo, said the branch was established after consultations with community leaders and an assessment of local needs.
He urged residents to use the facility regularly to ensure its sustainability.
He mentioned that the bank is committed to supporting farmers and SME operators in the area.
A member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly representing Dandi Constituency, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman-Fana, stated that the branch would strengthen financial inclusion in rural communities.
He urged farmers, traders, and young entrepreneurs to use the bank’s services to expand their businesses.
A petty trader in the community, Mrs. Hassana Abubakar, said she previously closed her shop whenever she travelled to Birnin Kebbi for banking transactions.
She added that the new branch would allow her to carry out transactions without losing business time.
The opening of the branch is expected to improve agricultural financing, enhance rural financial inclusion, and support small-scale agribusiness development in Dandi Local Government Area.
