Northeast Farmers Get Farming Tools to Rebuild, Feed Communities
Olamide Salau | 2nd July 2025

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has launched its 2025 Rainy Season Input Distribution across four states in Northeast Nigeria, and Taraba to help farmers rebuild their livelihoods and boost food production during this critical farming season.

The initiative is reaching 32,000 households, supporting an estimated 224,000 people with essential farming inputs like seeds and fertilisers.

The effort focuses on vulnerable families affected by conflict, climate challenges, and economic hardship in the region.

While the distribution of inputs is a major part of the programme, the FAO is also working closely with agriculture extension services in these states to ensure that farmers are equipped not just with tools but with the knowledge and training to use them effectively.

This support is especially important at a time when rising food insecurity threatens millions across the region.

With unpredictable weather, high input costs, and a growing number of displaced families, access to seeds, fertilizers, and expert advice could mean the difference between survival and hunger.

The initiative is backed by key partners, including the Government of Norway, the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
