The Yobe State Government has formally handed over four major agro-industrial processing hubs to the Nigeria Food Corporation (NFC) as part of strategic efforts to revitalise the state’s industrial sector and execute its Agro-Food Industrial Revolution.
The official signing and handover ceremony took place at the Governor’s Office in Damaturu, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, alongside the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Solid Minerals and Tourism.
The Nigeria Food Corporation was established as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to serve as the primary vehicle for driving Yobe’s commercial agricultural transformation.
In a statement issued by the Media Coordinator in the Office of the SSG, the initial suite of transferred assets includes Yobe Flour & Feeds Mills Company Limited and Wheat Flour Global Mills Company Limited (transferred by Yobe Investment Company Limited); Yobe State Fertilizer Blending Company, Gujba Ltd (transferred by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Tourism and Solid Minerals); and the Damaturu Modern Abattoir (transferred by the Ministry of Livestock Development).
Two additional assets, Nguru Oil Mills and a property designated for the NFC headquarters, have been slated for subsequent transfer pending the reconciliation of shareholder interests.
Speaking during the handover, SSG Dr Mohammed Goje emphasised that placing these facilities under a unified corporate framework creates the institutional structure required to attract private capital, improve productivity, expand state revenues, and generate thousands of employment opportunities across rural communities.
The legal transfer documents were signed by NFC Board Chairman Dr Sa’id Alkali Kori and witnessed by NFC Managing Director Dr Babagana Mohammed Adam.
Representing Yobe State as co-signatories were relevant ministry commissioners, the Director-General of YAPPPIP, Dr Aliyu Isa Chikaji (who joined virtually), and the outgoing Managing Director of Yobe Investment Company Limited, Hamza Saidu.
