The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has partnered with the African Agribusiness Consortium (AAC) to establish a 750-hectare irrigated vegetable production hub at Konadu in the Afram Plains, Eastern Region. 

Announced during an official reception in Accra on Monday, August 10, 2026, the initiative aligns with the Government’s Feed Ghana Agenda to expand food security, curb import reliance, and deploy 118 Ghanaian postgraduate agricultural specialists into commercial farming.

The returning cohort, comprising 88 agronomy specialists and 30 ecology graduates, recently completed postgraduate studies at the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), sponsored by the Jospong Group of Companies and the AAC.

Receiving the graduates, Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku disclosed that MoFA allocated the irrigated land, while the AAC will cover water charges and supply technical logistics. 

Emphasising the project’s strategic objective, Opoku stated: “Our objective is simple: to ensure that the expertise you have acquired translates into increased agricultural productivity, enhanced food security, job creation and national economic growth.”

Chief Executive Officer of the Consortium, Dr Mrs. Adelaide Araba Siaw Agyepong, highlighted that the scholarship initiative to foster entrepreneurship and innovation rather than traditional employment: 

“We want to prepare them to build enterprises, support farmers, strengthen value chains and introduce practical solutions to the challenges confronting Ghana’s agricultural and environmental sectors.

Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, urged the newly trained agronomists to remain in Ghana and drive technological change across rural value chains saying, “Your skills and ideas must drive a new revolution in farming. Settle, work hard and help transform Ghana’s agriculture.”
