Maxima Media Group has launched the public nomination phase for the inaugural Foodies Choice Awards to celebrate operators driving growth within Africa’s agricultural and food sectors.
The consumer-led voting initiative is open to participants across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, targeting individuals and corporate bodies that are expanding the continental food value chain.
The platform features 50 distinct award categories encompassing primary agriculture, indigenous food brands, culinary arts, hospitality, food media, and support services.
Organisers designed the voting architecture to empower everyday consumers to directly nominate and vote for the individuals, brands, and businesses driving market growth.
The awards launch coincides with a critical phase for Nigeria’s agricultural sector, which currently generates more than one-fifth of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and supports the majority of the domestic workforce through smallholder farming networks.
The evaluation framework is to highlight business scaling beyond basic subsistence farming, reflecting renewed commercial confidence driven by federal programs like the new 500 million dollar agricultural investment fund.
Maxima Media Group noted that the expansion of regional restaurants, culinary tech startups, and export-oriented processing plants supports Africa’s broader goal of building a 1 trillion dollar food economy by 2030.
Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Maxima Media Group, Oluwafemi Ogundoro, stated that the initiative gives consumers the tool to encourage higher processing standards and stronger industrial competitiveness across the regional market.
The organisers have selected professional services firm KPMG as the official assurance partner to audit the nomination, validation, and tallying processes.
Chief Operating Officer of Maxima Media Group, Michelle Fox, emphasised that the corporate partnership will guarantee that every consumer’s vote transparently reflects actual market preference and professional merit.
The final awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lagos in November 2026, bringing together policymakers, institutional investors, smallholders, and hospitality entrepreneurs from across the continent.
