Summary

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is recruiting a Director, Fertilizer & Soil Health Hub to lead the Regional Hub for Fertilizer and Soil Health for West Africa and the Sahel. The Director will oversee programmes that promote sustainable soil health and agricultural productivity across 21 countries in West Africa and the Sahel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Hub’s strategic direction and day-to-day operations.
  • Build partnerships with governments, development partners, and the private sector.
  • Mobilise funding and manage large-scale regional programmes.
  • Coordinate technical and administrative activities across partner countries.
  • Oversee programme implementation, monitoring, reporting, and governance.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team and strengthen collaboration across the region.
  • Travel extensively across West Africa and the Sahel to support partnerships and programme delivery.

Requirements

  • A postgraduate degree (MBA, MSc, or PhD) in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale agricultural or development initiatives in West Africa.
  • Strong expertise in partnership building, resource mobilisation, donor-funded programmes, and project governance.
  • Experience working with smallholder farmers and the regional agribusiness ecosystem.
  • Professional working proficiency in English and French.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic management skills.
