The Sokoto State Government has approved the procurement of assorted fertilisers, improved seeds, and agrochemicals worth ₦1,652,400,000 to scale up domestic crop yields for the wet season.
The agricultural development project was greenlit during the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Sokoto.
The investment is deliberately timed to hit rural communities at the onset of the rainy season, allowing local cultivators to maximise their field output during the current cropping cycle.
According to an official directive from the state capital, the newly approved inputs will directly complement the baseline agricultural assets earlier purchased by the 23 local government councils across the state.
The unified input rollout forms a central pillar of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s multi-sectoral development agenda to ensure long-term food availability and stabilise marketplace food prices.
The Executive Council approved a massive ₦1,609,146,000 welfare package to procure 1,200 units of Daylong motorcycles for civil servants. The asset distribution will be executed through a managed state loan scheme, successfully redeeming a public
pledge made by Governor Aliyu during this year’s May Day workers’ celebration.
Additionally, the council expanded regional infrastructure by approving ₦113,438,353.76 for the installation and comprehensive maintenance of the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport.
The administration’s developmental brief also directed heavy capital funding toward rural connectivity and emergency healthcare transformation. The council approved ₦592,116,627.38 to rapidly upgrade the Gagi Primary Health Centre to the status of a fully fledged General Hospital, alongside funding two distinct healthcare facilities in Tudun Wada and along Kontagora Road.
Furthermore, a budget of ₦246,981,250.00 was cleared for emergency concrete reinforcement works and the structural restoration of collapsed drainage canals and culverts behind the Rima Radio road network.
The comprehensive details of the cabinet resolutions were confirmed in a public statement issued by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Mr Abubakar Bawa.
