The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has distributed 50 13-horsepower tiller machines to farmers in Kogi State on Thursday as part of efforts to improve food production and agricultural productivity in the state.

The distribution took place in Kogi State and was led by the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, who was represented by the Director of Administration and Finance, Jimoh Gabi.

Yelwa said the intervention is aimed at promoting mechanised farming and reducing reliance on manual labour.

He stated that agriculture remains central to national development and food security.

He explained  that the commission is supporting agricultural policies designed to increase food production, create employment and reduce poverty.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in Kogi State, Timothy Ojomah, described the distribution as support for ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector.

He urged beneficiaries to use the machines effectively to increase farm output.

Ojomah mentioned that the distribution is the fourth agricultural empowerment initiative implemented in the state since the beginning of 2026.

He added that more than 30,000 units of fertiliser have also been distributed to farmers across Kogi State this year, alongside other farm inputs and equipment.

The Kogi State Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, Michael Omeiza Ajayi, said the machines are intended to improve productivity and support year-round farming.

He stressed the importance of proper use and monitoring of the equipment.

The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Project, Dr Bello Ogrima, said the initiative aligns with federal and state policies and will achieve food sufficiency and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
