Summary

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a qualified Laboratory Supervisor to manage daily biosafety laboratory operations at IITA Headquarters, specifically supporting CASS3 research activities. This role ensures strict compliance with biosafety protocols while executing high-level molecular breeding and tissue culture tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily BSL-2 biosafety laboratory activities and ensure total compliance with institutional SOPs and regulations.
• Execute molecular breeding (DNA extraction, genotyping, data analysis) and tissue culture activities, including media preparation and plantlet hardening.
• Organise CASS3 research data, maintain detailed laboratory records, and prepare regular activity reports.
• Liaise between breeding, field, and biosafety teams to streamline workflows and support laboratory inspections or audits.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• BSc/HND in Biochemistry, Laboratory Science, or a related field.
• At least two (2) years of experience in a similar role within a well-structured environment.
• Core Competencies:
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory biosafety procedures.
  • Technical proficiency in molecular laboratory and tissue culture techniques.
  • Strong organisational, data management, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
