Summary

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a qualified Nigerian national for the Research Supervisor role to support transgenic cassava research at its headquarters in Ibadan.

Responsibilities

• Field Trial Implementation (30%): Manage transgenic cassava plantlets from laboratory to field, including acclimatisation, hardening, and multiplication.
• Trial Management & Agronomy (25%): Supervise all agronomic operations (planting, fertilisation, pest control) and ensure strict adherence to biosafety protocols.
• Data & Digital Systems (25%): Establish trial designs in Cassavabase, curate datasets, and supervise field data collection using FieldBook.
• Facilities Oversight (10%): Maintain functionality of nursery and field equipment while monitoring plant survival rates.
• Team Coordination (10%): Provide daily technical supervision to field and nursery staff.

Requirements 

• BSc or HND in Crop Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
• At least two (2) years of experience in a similar role within a well-structured environment.

Core Competencies

• Strong knowledge of field trial establishment and agronomic practices.
• Proficiency with digital tools like FieldBook and databases such as Cassavabase.
• Clear understanding of biosafety and institutional regulatory requirements.
• Proven supervisory, coordination, and record-keeping skills.
