Ekiti State has received 80,500 doses of livestock vaccines from the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development as part of efforts to prevent and control transboundary animal diseases.

The vaccines, distributed under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) programme, include 50,000 doses of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) vaccine, 30,000 doses of Newcastle Disease vaccine, and 500 doses of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine.

State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, received the vaccines on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.

He described the delivery as a strategic step to strengthen animal health systems, boost livestock productivity, and improve food security across the state.

“Effective disease surveillance and timely vaccination are critical to achieving sustainable food security and improving public health outcomes,” Boluwade said.

He added that the vaccines would be deployed through coordinated campaigns to ensure wide coverage across livestock clusters and farming communities.

State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Mr Olayinka Adedipe, noted that the delivery aligns with ongoing efforts to build resilience against cross-border animal diseases.

Veterinary officers will oversee proper cold-chain management and the administration of vaccines to ensure their effectiveness.

Dr Adedamola Fasoranti, Director of Veterinary Services in Ekiti, highlighted that timely vaccination would reduce livestock mortality and increase productivity.

The National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr Abubakar Sanusi, commended the state government for its collaboration and readiness to implement the programme.
