Nasarawa State has projected a yield of more than 1.3 million bags of rice from the ongoing 2025 harvest season at the state-owned 3,300-hectare Jangwa Rice Farm in Awe Local Government Area, marking a significant boost for the state’s food security efforts and agricultural output.
Governor Abdullahi Sule made this known during an inspection visit to Jangwa village, where he assessed the progress of the harvest and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the expansive rice plantation.
According to the governor, over 600,000 bags of rice have already been harvested in just the first two weeks, representing nearly 50 per cent of the total expected yield.
“We started harvesting a little over two weeks ago, and we still have about two more weeks to finish,” he said. “At the moment, just about 50 per cent of the farm has been harvested.
By the time we complete the remaining portion, Nasarawa State is expected to realise over 1.3 million bags of rice.”
He added that the projected output would not only boost the state’s economy but also strengthen Nasarawa’s position as a key contributor to Nigeria’s rice production sector, especially at a time when local production is being prioritised to reduce food imports.
The governor further disclosed that the state government has already commenced the transportation of harvested paddy to milling centres in Abuja and Lokoja, Kogi State, in preparation for processing, packaging and distribution.
