The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has announced a national aquaculture production target of 38,604.32 metric tonnes for 2025, signalling a renewed push to expand Ghana’s fish farming industry and meet the country’s rising demand for seafood.

Addressing Parliament, the Minister stated that the projected increase would be driven by improved strategic planning, stronger monitoring systems and a more results-focused operational approach within the Ministry.

She noted that the goal reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the aquaculture sector as a key contributor to national food security and economic growth.

According to the Minister, ongoing capacity-building initiatives and direct support for fish farmers will play a central role in achieving the target.

These efforts include equipping farmers with improved technical skills, access to essential inputs and guidance on modern, sustainable farming practices, all aimed at boosting productivity and efficiency across the sector.

Ghana’s aquaculture industry continues to provide employment and income for thousands of people, particularly in rural and coastal communities.
