Atinuke | 27th March 2025

The Honourable Timothy Ojomah welcomes the 50 Kogi State students who have completed a challenging three-month training program at the Soilless Farm Lab in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

On January 6, 2025, carefully selected from the state’s three senatorial districts, these trainees began a transforming journey to learn novel agro-business skills and advanced farming techniques.

The Soilless Farm Lab training program has proven to be highly successful. It equips participants with practical knowledge of hydroponics and aeroponics technologies, various controlled farming systems, and greenhouse management. The program has highlighted the benefits of greenhouse farming over traditional methods, promoting efficiency and sustainability in agriculture.

A key feature of the program is the Smartcard Partnership, which aims to empower trainees to become successful agripreneurs. Through this partnership, participants will receive essential tools, mentorship, and resources to support their agricultural ventures and contribute to the sector’s growth in Kogi State and beyond.

During his speech, Honourable Ojomah emphasised Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo’s commitment to providing a favourable climate for farmers. He emphasised that this program is a strategic step towards developing Kogi State as a centre of agricultural excellence, increasing food security, and creating long-term work prospects for the youth.

He reassured the returnees of the government’s steadfast support, promising to continue working together to guarantee that their newly acquired talents are successfully used to advance the state.

Looking ahead, Honourable Ojomah revealed that the next cohort of the Soilless Farm Lab initiative will offer ambitious agripreneurs even more opportunities.
