Kaduna State University (KASU) has become the first and only state university in Nigeria to receive a ₦1 billion competitive grant to advance commercial agriculture, officials have announced.
The funding, provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), was awarded after a nationwide evaluation that assessed institutional capacity, innovation, and readiness to implement large-scale agricultural projects.
KASU distinguished itself with its focus on agricultural entrepreneurship, modern facilities, and a culture of innovation, as well as strong collaboration with the private sector.
“This success is for KASU and for the people of Kaduna State,” said Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, Vice Chancellor. “It shows that embracing innovation, accountability, and forward-thinking practices leads to real results.”
Professor Musa also commended the Faculty of Agriculture’s Dean, Dr Maharazu Ibrahim Kubau, for transforming the faculty into a model of modern agricultural practice. Under his leadership, outdated systems were replaced with structures prioritising efficiency, innovation, and measurable impact.
The Vice Chancellor further acknowledged Governor Uba Sani for his support of education and agriculture, noting the positive impact of his leadership on the state’s growth.
The ₦1 billion grant will be used to expand commercial agricultural programmes at KASU, establish agribusiness incubation hubs to support young entrepreneurs, and strengthen research partnerships with industry.
