The National Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS) has officially appointed Dr Esther Ibrahim, Project Officer at the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), as the Grand Matron of the association.
The event, held on 27 October 2025, has reinforced efforts to enhance agricultural education, youth involvement, and skills development across Nigeria.
During the ceremony, NAAS National President Hon Abdulazeez Bashar highlighted the urgent need for stronger student inclusion in agricultural decision-making.
He has also emphasised improved practical exposure and curriculum reform as crucial to building a future-ready workforce for Nigeria’s food systems.
He noted that the association remains committed to deepening partnerships between universities, industry actors, and government agencies to accelerate national agricultural development.
Members of the NAAS national executive council and representatives, including Ogunsola Solomon, Raji Ridwan, Daramola Ibrahim, and Soliu Asmau, attended the event.
Expressing gratitude for the honour, Dr Ibrahim has pledged to work closely with the association, the Grand Patron and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and other stakeholders to promote agricultural education and create more opportunities for students nationwide.
She stated that the role offers a unique opportunity to mentor young professionals and strengthen the talent pipeline needed in Nigeria’s agricultural transformation.
Dr Ibrahim attended the ceremony alongside her husband, biological sister, and an Assistant Director from the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS).
The current and past presidents of NAAS Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and other representatives of the institution’s chapter were also in attendance, demonstrating nationwide solidarity for student empowerment initiatives.
