Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has announced sweeping agricultural, rural transformation, and infrastructure reforms as part of his administration’s scorecard to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
In a statewide broadcast themed “Together We Are Overcoming, Together We Are Rising,” the governor said Kaduna is turning “vision into action” with projects spanning roads, markets, schools, healthcare, agriculture, and peacebuilding.
On agriculture, Governor Sani disclosed that 500,000 hectares of abandoned farmland have been reclaimed.
At the same time, key rural markets such as Birnin Gwari Livestock Market and Kidandan Market have been reopened to stimulate trade and rebuild farmer confidence.
He added that over 10% of Kaduna’s 2025 budget has been allocated to agriculture, the state’s highest in recent years, to drive food security and promote climate-smart farming.
“Our focus on agriculture is deliberate,” Sani said. “By reclaiming land, reopening markets, and investing in food systems, we are securing Kaduna’s future and supporting Nigeria’s broader food security goals.”
Beyond agriculture, the governor highlighted 85 road projects covering 785km, nearly half of which are completed, to improve rural access and reduce travel time for farmers and traders.
He also cited investments in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and peacebuilding as part of his administration’s inclusive governance approach.
With agriculture accounting for the livelihoods of millions in Kaduna, analysts say the state’s emphasis on farmland recovery and rural markets could make it a model for food security efforts nationwide.
“As Nigeria turns 65, Kaduna is standing tall as a model of resilience, progress, and renewed hope,” Governor Sani declared, urging citizens to remain united in building a stronger nation.
