The Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr Abubakar Adamu Dabban, has pledged stronger support for agricultural research and training institutions during his maiden working visit to Ibadan.
Dr Dabban, who led a six-member delegation, visited the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), the Federal College of Agriculture (FCA), and the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT), Ibadan.
The visit, held at the Prof. E. A. Adebowale Training Hall, Moor Plantation, aimed to deepen collaboration and identify priority areas where the council can provide strategic support.
At the meeting, the CEOs of the institutions, Prof. Gabriel Oluwatosin (IAR&T), Prof. Jeremiah Jonathan Atungwu (FCA), and Dr Chidi Okpeze (FCAH&PT), welcomed the ARCN delegation.
They highlighted ongoing efforts in agricultural research, farmer training, and animal health while expressing optimism that closer ties with the Council would accelerate innovation in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
In his remarks, Dr Dabban commended the institutions for their contributions to agricultural development.
He assured them of ARCN’s commitment to strengthening research capacity, supporting staff development, and advancing technologies that address food security challenges.
Also in attendance were senior ARCN officials, including Dr Oluwafemi Salako (Director, Planning, Research & Statistics), Dr Aliyu Madugu (Director, Plant Resources Department), and Mrs Khadijat Ameen (Public Relations Officer).
Former heads of the institutions, such as Prof. Veronica Obatolu and Dr Adekoya Owosibo, also graced the event.
