Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has contributed ₦492 million into youth empowerment schemes, with a strong focus on boosting agricultural activity among young people.

The funding package, which benefits 1,187 youths, includes support for farmers and traders and the acquisition of equipment.

Out of the total number, 276 young farmers received assistance through the ARISE Farmers Grant, which aims to expand agricultural production in the state.

Addressing a large crowd at the Uyo Township Square, Ibom Hall Grounds, the governor said the grant was designed to encourage entrepreneurship, with agriculture playing a central role.

The empowerment drive also saw 628 traders supported under the ARISE Traders Grant, 263 beneficiaries receiving equipment support, eight persons benefiting from a ₦5 million MSME grant, and 12 recipients provided with cars and minibuses to aid their businesses.

Governor Eno disclosed that 116 projects have been completed across Uyo, Uruan, Nsit Attai, and Ibesikpo Asutan local councils during his two years in office. These projects encompass roads, health centres, compassionate homes, elderly care facilities, and primary schools.

He explained that the stakeholder meeting was held to receive the needs document for the federal constituency, which would be included in the 2026 People’s Budget, as part of a statewide plan to reach all constituencies with grants and development projects.

Commending the turnout, the governor said: “The massive turnout is indicative of your status as the landlords of the Government House.”

He also appreciated the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, for uniting the people in support of the government’s programmes.

The funding marks a significant step in supporting youth-led farming and agribusiness in Akwa Ibom, seekingto enhance food production and economic opportunities in both rural and urban communities.
