Sherif Ogundele | 7th August 2025

The Coalition of Farmers Network (COFAN) has called on the newly appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to advocate for policies that will boost agricultural productivity, especially among women and youth.

The organisation, representing millions of smallholder farmers, agripreneurs, and commodity groups, emphasised the importance of market access and value addition in the agricultural sector.

It urged Yilwatda to establish mechanisms to support sustainable growth and inclusion in rural farming communities.

Speaking on behalf of the network, COFAN National President Dr Abubakar Musa stated that agriculture remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.

He expressed optimism that the APC, under Yilwatda’s leadership, would prioritise impactful programmes for rural farmers and agribusinesses.

“We issue a strong vote of confidence in the newly appointed APC chairman, Professor Yilwatda,” Musa said.

“At this critical time, as Nigeria works towards economic diversification and food security, the emergence of a leader with proven grassroots connections and national insight is timely and commendable.”

COFAN praised the APC for its bold and strategic decision and pledged continued support to the party.

The group reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the APC to promote sustainable agricultural development nationwide.
