Senegal has begun plans to advance the continental and regional agenda for soil health.
This was made known at the inaugural National Horticulture Forum in Dakar, a significant event supported by AGRA and key partners.
The Forum gathered nearly 200 participants, including decision-makers, farmer associations, development partners, and private sector representatives, to collaboratively design policies and investments to transform the country’s food systems in alignment with the national Vision 2050 and regional food security objectives.
In his opening remarks, Amath Pathe Sene, AGRA’s Acting Regional Director for West Africa, highlighted several critical points.
He drew attention to the role of soil fertility and management in boosting agricultural productivity and sustainability.
He also called for aligning national policies with continental agendas, ensuring coherence across various sectors, and enhancing market access through branding and smart incentives.
In addition, Amath Pathe highlighted the necessity of targeted investments focused on youth and women to build resilient food systems.
