OCP Africa Donates 2,000 Tons of Fertiliser to Support Feed Ghana’s Program

Morocco has delivered 2,000 tons of fertiliser to Ghana, as part of efforts to support the country’s flagship Feed Ghana program.

The shipment, facilitated by OCP Africa, the state-owned phosphate company of the North African country, was officially received by Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture on July 29.

This move strengthens agricultural ties between Morocco and Ghana and form abasis for bilateral efforts to boost collaboration in agriculture, education, and industry.

Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil, attended the delivery ceremony alongside Ghana’s foreign minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture John Dumelo.

The Feed Ghana program is a government-led effort to increase local food production, improve farmer productivity, create jobs, and enhance food security nationwide.

With this donation, Ghana hopes to accelerate further progress toward these objectives.

Ambassador Ouaadil emphasised that the fertiliser support reflects Morocco’s long-standing solidarity with Ghana and its continued efforts to strengthen African partnerships.

She noted that the delivery fulfilled a promise made during a recent visit by Minister Ablakwa to Rabat, where he met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

During the visit, the two countries also signed a visa waiver agreement to boost diplomatic and economic cooperation.

Deputy Minister John Dumelo described the fertiliser delivery as “a generous gesture that perfectly aligns with the ongoing transformation in Ghana’s agricultural sector.”

He assured that the fertilisers would be “fully utilised to serve the program’s objectives” and announced that strict monitoring would follow to ensure effective distribution and usage.

Foreign Minister Ablakwa praised the growing Ghana-Morocco relationship, highlighting the partnership’s expansion into areas such as agricultural research.

He cited a recent visit by Moroccan experts to Accra as an example of this fruitful collaboration.

Beyond Ghana, Morocco continues to expand its agricultural footprint across Africa.

In 2024, the country launched its Farmer Service Centres (FSC) project in Rwanda, in partnership with USAID.

The initiative offers services like soil fertility mapping and farmer credit scoring to improve yields and boost sustainable growth.

Morocco has also collaborated with Kenya on a major soil mapping project, signalling a move from simply supplying fertilisers to offering customised soil solutions based on precise regional needs.

The project in Kenya has already benefited over 100 participants and showcases Morocco’s commitment to precision agriculture in East Africa.
