President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s strong commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Brazil, placing agriculture and technology at the heart of the partnership.
During a Tuesday evening meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja with Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, President Tinubu emphasised the importance of advancing joint initiatives aimed at transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
“The landmark $1 billion Green Imperative Programme, a bilateral agricultural mechanisation initiative anchored by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in collaboration with Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and private sector stakeholders, stands as a flagship of this renewed partnership,” says President Tinubu
He explained the initiative is “designed to transform Nigeria’s agricultural value chain through technology transfer, capacity building, and the establishment of service centres across the country.”
Tinubu, who was joined by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the high-level meeting, said the visit by the Brazilian delegation signified a shift in relations from mere expressions of goodwill to concrete steps towards shared economic and developmental goals.
Looking ahead, President Tinubu noted that Nigeria is preparing for active participation in the upcoming COP30 Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil, another avenue for intensifying collaboration on climate action and sustainability.
“We also look forward to Nigeria’s active participation at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, as both nations work to scale up collaboration on climate action, energy transition, and environmental resilience,” he said.
Tinubu characterised the revitalized relationship as one rooted in shared prosperity and results-oriented diplomacy, encompassing initiatives from renewable energy ventures to creative industry collaborations.
“Nigeria remains steadfast in its commitment to forging resilient South-South partnerships built on mutual respect, shared prosperity, and concrete outcomes for our populace,” the President asserted.
He concluded by expressing solidarity in Portuguese, reiterating Brazil’s principle of unity: “As our Brazilian companions say, ‘Juntos somos mais fortes’, together we are stronger.”
