The Chief Executive Officer of AGCOMS International Trading Limited, Chijioke Okoli, has said that Nigeria’s exposure to advanced mechanisation technology and global best practices is essential to transforming its agricultural sector.
Speaking at the 2025 NAMPO Harvest Day in South Africa, the largest agricultural trade event on the continent, Okoli stated, “It’s vital for the world to know that, despite Nigeria’s historic current low mechanisation level, the prospects of the country are bright because of the strong focus of the Tinubu administration on increasing tractor usage in the country. So we have every reason to be optimistic.”
AGCOMS, the official John Deere dealer in Nigeria, took part in the event to showcase the country’s potential in agricultural mechanisation and attract global investor interest. The company highlighted ongoing government efforts, including plans to deploy 30,000 tractors over five years, establish mechanisation hubs, and train operators and mechanics nationwide.
Okoli added, “We are committed to building the most knowledgeable and forward-thinking team in Africa. Exposure to advanced mechanisation technology and global best practices is key to transforming our agricultural landscape.”
The Nigerian delegation included a team from Niger State, led by the Chief Executive of Niger Foods, Mr. Sammy Adigun. Niger is one of the leading states in Nigeria pushing agricultural mechanisation at the sub-national level.
A highlight of the exhibition was the unveiling of the John Deere 9RX 830 hp Tractor, described as the most powerful tractor ever launched in Africa.
The quad-track machine is designed for high-efficiency, precision-driven, large-scale farming operations.
AGCOMS reaffirmed its role as a key enabler of Nigeria’s food security agenda. During the event, its team engaged with top equipment manufacturers and partners, strengthening relationships critical to supporting Nigeria’s agricultural ambitions.
NAMPO 2025 attracted over 87,000 visitors and 750 exhibitors from around the world. Organised by Grain SA, the event serves as a major platform for agricultural innovation, partnerships, and technology transfer across Africa.
AGCOMS also restated its commitment to training young professionals and empowering farmers by delivering best-in-class mechanisation solutions tailored to Nigeria’s needs.
