Senator Bassey Meets Chinese Ambassador to Discuss Food Security Plans

Senator Aniekan Bassey, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development of the National Assembly of Nigeria, held a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai to align on deepening bilateral cooperation in agriculture between Nigeria and China. .

According to Ambassador Yu, food security is essential to the stability and growth of China and Nigeria, two highly populated nations. By encouraging technical exchanges, staff training, disaster prevention and mitigation, and the production and use of agricultural machinery, China is prepared to strengthen its agricultural cooperation with Nigeria further. 

He underlined China’s willingness to collaborate with Nigeria to promote agricultural modernisation.

China also welcomes more high-quality Nigerian agricultural products into the Chinese market and will encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in agricultural projects in Nigeria, contributing to Nigeria’s food security and economic diversification.

Senator Bassey said that China is one of the primary markets for Nigerian agricultural exports. 

He added that Nigeria sees China as a significant strategic partner and is eager to expand strategic collaboration with China to increase the added value of Nigerian agricultural goods and generate new market prospects for developing agriculture in the two nations.
