The agriculture empowerment programme introduced by the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni in Yobe State has been described as a model worth replicating by other states across Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview on Monday in Damaturu, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Ali Goniri, said: “The programme is a mode, and worthy of emulation by other states.”

Goniri, who reviewed the ministry’s achievements between 2023 and 2025, highlighted that the programme cost the state over ₦17 billion in 2024 and directly empowered 5,340 farmers across 178 electoral wards.

He noted that under the scheme, farmers received a wide range of equipment and inputs including 100 Zoom Lion tractors, 300 ox-drawn ploughs, 590 hand-push tillers, 4,202 solar-powered irrigation pumps, and 72,000 bags of fertiliser.
