The Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo, Professor Christopher Eze, has called for the use of digital financial tools in modern farming across the country.
Speaking at a one-day training event on Digital Financial Solutions (DFS) for farmers, cooperatives, and local authorities, Eze explained that these tools would help farmers access financial services more easily, manage transactions efficiently, and make better decisions to improve their farms.
The event, held at the university, focused on using digital solutions to support sustainable agriculture and adapt to climate change.
The training was organised by the ‘DIGISOL PROJECT’ domiciled in the university and funded by the European Union (EU), with other partner institutions.
He lamented that despite the fact that agriculture had remained a focal point in the national economic growth, it is the tillers of the land that are often times subjected to change in weather pattern that would lead to level of losses on their investment.
Eze said the training was designed to expose the farmers on practical ground on how to make use of digital means to deal with issues bothering them on climate, let them have a feel of how digital financial solutions work and how to cut down on dumping of agricultural produce.
