The U.S. Mission to Nigeria has hosted a speaker program as part of its flagship Freedom 250 initiative, bringing prominent American livestock development expert Dr Gregg BeVier to engage Nigerian agribusiness leaders, policymakers, and youth entrepreneurs. 

Held from August 10–13, 2026, the four-day engagement underscored Washington’s commitment to advancing two-way trade, deepening private-sector partnerships, and enhancing agricultural productivity across Nigeria.

Supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA-FAS), the initiative featured three interconnected events designed to drive commercial alignment. 

In Abuja, Dr BeVier addressed delegates at the 9th All-Africa Conference on Animal Agriculture and held strategic dialogues with officials from the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the Livestock Reforms and Implementation Committee. Talks focused on leveraging American private-sector technologies, including advanced livestock genetics, sex-sorted semen, and AI-driven herd management systems, to modernise Nigeria’s commercial livestock value chain.

Beyond government-level engagements, Dr BeVier connected with emerging entrepreneurs across the network of 30 American Spaces in Nigeria to explore youth-led productivity innovations. 

He also joined representatives from leading U.S. animal husbandry firms at the U.S.-Nigeria Livestock and Feed Connect event, a business-to-business matchmaking session aimed at establishing commercial ventures in dairy, poultry, and animal feed production. 

The program builds on exchange frameworks such as the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), paving the way for future academic and financial exchanges under the U.S.-Nigeria Commercial and Investment Partnership.
