The Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State has introduced a comprehensive livestock regulation bye-law prohibiting open grazing and mandating the registration of all herders and livestock owners within its jurisdiction. 

Council Chairman Olanrewaju Ayodeji Oyegbola-Sodipo announced the regulatory measure alongside the commissioning of grassroots infrastructure projects spanning roads, schools, primary healthcare facilities, rural electrification, and potable water across the council’s 16 wards.

The local government held a stakeholder sensitisation summit involving traditional rulers, agricultural associations, herder unions, security personnel, and youth organisations. 

Highlighting the administration’s policy vision, Council Chairman Oyegbola-Sodipo emphasised that sustainable governance extends beyond physical construction: 

“Development is not measured solely by the number of projects we execute. It is equally reflected in the institutions we build, the laws we enact, and the level of public understanding and ownership we create.” 

He added: “Our approach has always been to carry our people along because lasting development can only be achieved through partnership between government and the people.”

The new local bye-law strictly prohibits indiscriminate waste disposal, public land encroachment, and unauthorised occupancy of civic assets. 

Commending the local government’s execution, Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, noted that the ward-level investments mirror the rural development priorities of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s state administration. 

Oyegbola-Sodipo reaffirmed his council’s commitment to strengthening local security, safeguarding agricultural investments, and enhancing inclusive grassroots administration.
