The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Omanbapa AgriTech Limited to establish a commercial organic fertiliser processing facility in Ghana.
The agreement, executed on Monday, July 27, 2026, in Accra, forms part of government interventions under the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) to drive private sector investment into sustainable farming, protect soil health, and strengthen domestic food production systems.
Addressing officials at the ceremony, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, stated that the partnership supports the Ministry’s strategic objective to gradually shift from synthetic chemical inputs toward organic soil nutrients.
The organic formulation passed technical efficacy evaluations conducted by the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) alongside field trials with local farmers before approval for commercial scaling.
Under the agreement, the project will launch with a blending facility before expanding into a full-scale manufacturing plant located in the Ashanti and Ahafo regions.
The plant will process agricultural waste, such as maize husks and crop residues, into market-ready organic fertiliser for both local farmers and regional export markets.
Chief Executive Officer of Omanbapa AgriTech Limited, Mr Bernard Oduro-Tetteh, confirmed that the company and its Malaysian technical partners are committing capital and technology to support Ghana’s waste-to-resource value chain.
In addition to creating processing jobs and providing farmers with additional income streams from crop residue sales, Omanbapa AgriTech announced sponsorship packages for the 42nd National Farmers’ Day Celebration, including billboards in Sunyani, promotional flags, and branded apparel for the ministry.
Key officials present at the signing included Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Setor Dumelo; MoFA Chief Director, Mr Paul Siameh; and executive representatives from Omanbapa AgriTech’s international partner network.
