The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has signed two landmark Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Nigerian Commodity Exchange (NCX) and the Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN) to fast-track the nation’s clean energy transition and stimulate innovation-driven economic development.
These strategic alliances have been executed because of the federal government’s urgent mandate to interlink renewable energy deployment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security and digital transformation agendas.
The first agreement, sealed alongside the NCX, establishes a comprehensive National Collaborative Framework for Agro-Industrial Cluster Development, Renewable Energy Deployment, and Commodity Trade Formalisation.
Under this framework, both state-backed institutions will pool resources to systematically embed solar-powered infrastructure into agricultural value chains across the federation.
This agricultural intervention has been designed to link reliable solar mini-grids directly with commodity aggregation, climate-controlled storage, processing, and export hubs.
Addressing infrastructural gaps at the rural level, the partnership is expected to dramatically curb post-harvest waste, improve local value retention, and significantly boost Nigeria’s non-oil foreign exchange earnings through structured, transparent trade.
Simultaneously, the REA’s second partnership with the Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN) focuses on the co-hosting and joint execution of the annual Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED).
YIN, an organisation that has already upskilled over 30,000 young Nigerians, specialises in bridging the digital divide through STEM education, startup mentorship, and tech entrepreneurship support for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Through this framework, the REA will deliver essential institutional backing and clean-energy expertise to the tech sector.
The agency has pledged to participate actively in nationwide tech exhibitions, panel discussions, and innovation hackathons.
