The Lagos State Government says its food hub initiative has recorded transactions worth more than ₦3.8 billion as the state expands structured agro-produce markets across major locations.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Mrs Abisola Olusanya, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Alausa.

Olusanya said the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Idi-Oro, Mushin, has continued to improve food distribution, market access for farmers and create jobs within the agricultural value chain.

According to her, the state had earlier recorded over ₦2.6 billion in transactions at the facility before the value increased further.

She added that more than 850 vendors have been registered under the initiative, while over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs have been created through food trading, logistics, produce handling and related services.

“The Fresh Food Hub at Idi-Oro, Mushin, has already demonstrated the value of structured market infrastructure by improving food aggregation, supporting direct farmer-to-market linkages, creating jobs, and enabling better produce handling,” Olusanya said.

The commissioner disclosed that the state government is now expanding the initiative through the development of additional mid-level agro-produce hubs across Lagos.

She said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu virtually commissioned the newly completed Mid-Level Agroproduce Hub in Abijo in April 2026.

According to her, another agro-produce hub in Agege is expected to be launched within the next few months.

Olusanya also disclosed that construction work is currently ongoing in Opebi, Ikorodu and Bombata, while additional sites have been identified in Apapa, Festac and the Lekki axis.

She explained that the long-term objective is to establish a structured food distribution infrastructure across all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.

According to the commissioner, the agro-produce hubs are designed to reduce post-harvest losses, improve food distribution efficiency and provide more organised markets for farmers and traders.

She noted that the initiative forms part of the broader agricultural strategy of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu aimed at modernising Lagos’ food economy through investments in logistics, storage, processing and market infrastructure.

Olusanya added that the state government is focused on building a resilient food system capable of improving food supply, reducing waste and expanding access to affordable food for residents.
