Nigerian cement company, BUA Cement has launched the Livelihood Restoration Programme in Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto Stateon Thursday by distributing essential agricultural inputs to an initial batch of 300 farmers from host communities affected by land expansion.
This initiative is part of a broader recovery strategy expected to reach 1,500 people, ensuring that those displaced by industrial operations can maintain and improve their agricultural productivity.
The Managing Director of BUA Cement, Yusuf Binji, represented by the Director of Corporate Affairs Services, Sada Sulaiman, stated that the intervention specifically targets farmers whose livelihoods were affectedby the company’s expansion.
While replacement farmlands were previously provided, the company is now supplying high-quality inputs to ensure these farmers achieve better yields.
Ali Gumel, Assistant Director of Health, Community Safety, and Environment, noted that the distribution follows extensive classroom and field training sessions designed to upgrade the farmers’ technical skills.
The Chairman of Wamakko Local Government, Umar Mohammed, commended BUA Cement for its consistent support, urging beneficiaries to utilise the resources to enhance local food security.
The programme is being implemented in two batches of 150 farmers each and is only the first phase of a larger social investment plan.
BUA Cement has also disclosed intentions to introduce entrepreneurship training, vocational skills acquisition, and livestock farming support for community members not engaged in crop production, fostering a more resilient local economy.
