The Federal Government has again stressed that agriculture remains the primary backbone of Nigeria’s economy, serving as a driver for job creation, poverty reduction, and national food security.
Speaking at the Annual Ministerial Reward and Recognition Ceremony in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, emphasised that sustainable agricultural growth is not a matter of chance but the result of the collective dedication of farmers, researchers, and policymakers.
The event, held under the theme “Nurturing Dedication, Growing Sustainable Agriculture,” was designed to celebrate excellence and innovation within the ministry’s workforce.
Senator Kyari noted that as the nation grapples with global challenges such as climate change and economic uncertainty, the transition to sustainable practices has become a matter of urgency.
He praised the award recipients for transforming challenges into opportunities and urged the civil service to remain steadfast in the pursuit of excellence.
The Minister highlighted that the dedication shown by the ministry’s staff is essential for meeting current food needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, added that the ceremony aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP 25).
This reform agenda focuses on institutionalising a performance-driven culture to enhance productivity across the civil service.
Representative of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Abdul Garba, commended the ministry for fostering a culture of appreciation, which he stated is vital for motivating staff to achieve Nigeria’s mandate of ensuring food and nutrition security.
