The Bauchi State office of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes programme has distributed 40 additional tractors, 100 motorcycles, and nine heavy-duty machines to support farming and environmental management ahead of the 2026 planting season.

The equipment was provided under the World Bank-supported initiative to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen environmental protection, and help farmers prepare for a more successful farming cycle.

The tractors were shared across the 20 local government areas, with each receiving two additional units. The heavy-duty machines were handed over to key state agencies, including the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency, the Rural Roads Agency, and the State Urban Maintenance Agency.

Motorcycles were given to extension workers, agriculture officers, and staff of the Rural Water and Sanitation Agency to improve their field operations.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Bauchi on Saturday, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed said the programme remains important in tackling climate change, restoring degraded land and improving food production.

He said the new equipment would reduce the burden on farmers and help government agencies carry out their work more effectively, while also supporting environmental recovery across the state.

The Commissioner for Housing and Environment and Chairman of the ACReSAL project, Danlami Ahmed Kawule, thanked the governor for his continued support, saying it has helped the Bauchi project stand out and deliver results that benefit residents.

Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, said the additional tractors were procured to reach more smallholder farmers.

He revealed that the 20 tractors distributed earlier generated about N36 million during the last farming season and expressed confidence that the increase would push revenue above N100 million.

Kabir also said Bauchi is leading among participating states in implementing the project, which is funded by the World Bank.

According to him, the programme has helped reclaim degraded land, promote climate-smart farming, and provide inputs to support year-round agriculture.

He added that water points have been established in communities to reduce clashes between farmers and herders and assured that the project would continue until its scheduled completion in 2028.
