The Seed Entrepreneurs Association of Nigeria (SEEDAN), in partnership with Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition, has unveiled a 2026–2030 Strategic Plan to improve farmers’ access to high-quality seeds and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural productivity.
The strategy, launched in Abuja, will address long-standing challenges in the country’s seed system, including governance gaps, quality assurance issues and weak coordination across the value chain.
Speaking at the unveiling, SEEDAN President, Mr Yusuf-Ado Kibiya, stated that the plan goes beyond a policy document and reflects a clear commitment to empowering seed companies and supporting national food security goals.
According to him, the strategy focuses on improving seed quality standards, strengthening institutional governance and building sustainable partnerships across the agricultural value chain.
Kibiya noted that SEEDAN plays a promotional role in Nigeria’s agricultural development by helping to translate research innovations into practical solutions that benefit farmers, while also advocating policies and investments that support a vibrant seed business environment.
He added that improved seed systems are critical to boosting crop yields, enhancing resilience and improving farmers’ incomes, particularly as Nigeria grapples with food security and climate-related challenges.
The SEEDAN president commended Sahel Consulting and other stakeholders for their contributions to the strategy’s development and called for sustained collaboration to ensure effective implementation.
He disclosed that the plan was financed by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and developed through a close partnership with Sahel Consulting.
Under the new roadmap, SEEDAN will also deepen global engagement and strengthen collaboration with the National Agricultural Seeds Council to improve seed policy, regulation and quality assurance.
Hauwa Ali of Sahel Consulting said the strategy prioritises institutional capacity building and stronger governance structures to enable more effective service delivery to both members and farmers.
She added that the plan promotes financial sustainability, diversified revenue streams and stronger policy advocacy, positioning SEEDAN as a resilient and influential institution within Nigeria’s seed sector.
