The Federal Government has announced plans to strengthen collaboration with non-governmental organisations and the private sector to improve food production, grow the economy, and create jobs.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, made this known during a farm input distribution exercise in Cross River State on Thursday.
Represented by Mr Bassey Iwara, Director of Agribusiness and Market Development, the minister highlighted the political will of the current administration to transform agriculture.
“The President Bola Tinubu-led government has implemented economic reforms to stimulate productive capacity, create jobs, and reduce the cost of living,” Kyari stated.
He added that emergency responses and targeted humanitarian actions had been undertaken to alleviate the ongoing food crisis.
The minister outlined that programmes had been rolled out to make essential farm inputs and machinery more accessible and affordable for small-scale farmers.
“Our foremost concern is facilitating agro-inputs for farmers constrained by high market costs,” he said.
Ekori Nsan, the state coordinator, urged farmers to use the inputs appropriately, noting that follow-up mechanisms had been implemented to ensure accountability.
Beneficiary Asuquo Asuquo expressed gratitude to the government for the timely support.
The initiative reflects a renewed focus on climate-smart agriculture, youth employment, and sustainable livelihoods across Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
