Ghana has urged Israel to reintroduce internship programmes for Ghanaian agriculture students, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen knowledge exchange in the sector.
The call was made during the 3rd Israel–Ghana Political Dialogue, held in Jerusalem, during which Ghana’s delegation highlighted agriculture as a key area for collaboration.
The Ghanaian delegation was led by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Gyakye Quayson.
At the same time, the discussions were co-chaired by H.E. Sharren Haskel, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel.
Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr John Dumelo, was also part of the delegation.
The high-level dialogue offered a platform for discussions on mutual interests, including diplomatic cooperation, security, agriculture, and capacity-building initiatives.
Mr Dumelo used the opportunity to advocate for the return of internship programmes for Ghanaian agriculture students in Israel, noting that such initiatives would expose students to advanced agricultural technologies and practical skills.
Mr Dumelo stated that international internships remain critical for building a skilled workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda.
He emphasised that practical training abroad would contribute to improved productivity and long-term growth in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The Political Dialogue is part of ongoing efforts by Ghana and Israel to deepen cooperation and explore practical avenues for collaboration in sectors that support national development.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations and expanding cooperation in areas that promote sustainable growth and knowledge exchange.
