Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has assured that his administration is commited to fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, emphasising dialogue, law, and collaborative efforts as key tools for harmony and rural prosperity.

Speaking at a one-day stakeholders’ summit organised by the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) in Bodija, Ibadan, Governor Makinde stated that the state belongs to all residents irrespective of their ethnicity or beliefs.

He highlighted the government’s support for agricultural development, including tractorisation subsidies, farm input distribution, and vaccination efforts for cattle.

The summit, themed “Navigating the Oyo State Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law: Ensuring Adherence and Advancing Sustainable Livestock Management, convened traditional rulers, farmers, pastoralists, and key government officials to discuss solutions for recurring conflicts.

Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd.), Chairperson of OYRLEA, described the gathering as a crucial platform to curb unlawful acts, including farm encroachment, maiming, and property destruction, while promoting social harmony and food security.

Governor Makinde stressed that the anti-open grazing law is not intended to target any group but to restore order, protect lives, and prevent avoidable crises.

He praised traditional leaders, farmers, and Fulani residents for their role in maintaining peace and urged continuous engagement among all stakeholders.

Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, former House Speaker Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Head of Service Mrs Olubunmi Oni, and other officials attended the event, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to collaborative conflict resolution.
