Atinuke Ajeniyi | 22nd December 2025

The Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) has hosted the second edition of its Annual Chicken Fair across three major cities, calling for increased investment in sustainable poultry farming to strengthen food security and economic growth in Nigeria.

Held simultaneously yesterday in Benin City, Abuja, and Lagos, the event, themed Sustainable Poultry Farming: Innovations for Food Security and Economic Growth, highlights the role of poultry as an accessible pathway to nutrition, jobs, and resilient livelihoods, particularly for women and youth smallholders.

LAPO President Barr Faith Osazuwa-Ojo, represented by Executive Vice President Dr Victor Noruwa at the Lagos event, emphasised that empowering poultry farmers forms the backbone of Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

“Poultry farming remains one of the most accessible pathways to nutrition security, income generation, and employment for millions of Nigerians,” she stated.

The fair showcases LapO’s ongoing commitment to agriculture through targeted financing, capacity building, market linkages, and advisory services.

These initiatives have boosted productivity, incomes, and access to nutritious food for communities nationwide.

LAPO’s focus on sustainable practices addresses climate challenges while creating jobs for young Nigerians entering the sector.

Osazuwa-Ojo noted the organisation’s role in supporting smallholder farmers – especially women and youth, to build resilient local economies.

The 2025 edition highlights the pressing need for inclusive agricultural development, aligning with Nigeria’s objectives for climate-resilient farming and sustainable livelihoods.

Stakeholders at the events praised the initiative as a model for scaling poultry production nationwide.
