Summary

IITA, a CGIAR member, drives agricultural innovation across sub-Saharan Africa to combat hunger, malnutrition, poverty, and resource degradation. This role supports their Southern Africa Hub.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integrated crop/natural resource management strategies for smallholder farmers (focus: women/youth resilience)
  • Build partnerships for scaling innovations (trials, IPM, soil fertility, crop-livestock systems)
  • Coordinate participatory trials and disseminate climate-smart recommendations via digital tools
  • Integrate agronomic data with breeding/modelling for yield prediction and climate adaptation
  • Publish research, prepare donor reports, mobilise resources, and strengthen NARS capacity

Requirements

  • PhD in Agronomy, Soil Science, or related field
  • 10+ years experience (5+ in team management/partnerships)
  • Proven crop systems research, soil-plant knowledge, grant writing, and publications
    Excellent English (Portuguese advantage); strong communication/project skills
