The Hadejia–Jam’are River Basin Development Authority has pledged to deepen collaboration with security agencies to enhance food security across its operational areas.

The commitment was made by the Managing Director of the authority, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, during a courtesy visit by the Commander of MOPOL 9 Kano, ACP Mu’awiya Abubakar.

Bichi explained that the partnership aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which mandates river basin authorities to provide adequate irrigation facilities and promote modern farming techniques to boost national food production.

He added that security support is vital to ensuring uninterrupted farming activities in both rural and urban communities.

As part of the collaboration, Bichi directed his technical team to commence a survey for the construction of a borehole at the MOPOL 9 barracks in Kano, describing the project as a contribution to improving the welfare of officers and their families.

He also appealed to security agencies to intensify protection of farmlands and river-basin project sites, enabling farmers to work without fear of attacks and contributing to national food sufficiency.

ACP Mu’awiya Abubakar commended the authority for its extensive irrigation development and food-security efforts. He noted that the courtesy visit aligned with IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s community-policing strategy, which seeks to strengthen partnerships with key institutions and foster safer environments for socio-economic activities.
