Soba LGA has been recognised as Nigeria’s Best Performing Local Government in Agriculture by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, highlighting its significant impact on local food production and rural development.

The award was presented on Wednesday in Kaduna at the 47th National Council on Agriculture and Food Security (NCAFS), a key national forum for advancing agricultural policy and food security.

Soba Local Government Area emerged as the top-ranking council for its strategic farmer interventions, effective extension services and measurable productivity gains at strengthening food systems and improving rural livelihoods.

The citation accompanying the award commended the council for driving agricultural transformation that supports both state and national food security goals.

Reacting to the recognition, the Soba Council Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Lawal Shehu (Molash), dedicated the award to Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, attributing the achievement to the administration’s strong agricultural vision and timely investments in rural support systems.

He emphasised that the state government’s provision of free fertilisers, pesticides, weedicides, tractors and mechanised farming support had empowered smallholder farmers to expand production and increase yields.

Mr Shehu reaffirmed the council’s commitment to scaling agricultural innovation through expanded mechanisation, improved rural infrastructure and sustainable farming initiatives designed to position Soba as a national benchmark for food sufficiency and rural economic growth.

He further expressed appreciation to federal and state authorities for their support, pledging that Soba LGA would continue advancing inclusive rural development, food security and agricultural excellence in line with Governor Sani’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
