The Lagos State Government has marked the 2025 World Food Day with renewed commitment to building a resilient food system and empowering farmers across the state.

Through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, the state has organised a series of activities to promote sustainable agriculture, youth participation, and food accessibility.

These include agricultural quiz competitions for secondary school students, a farmers’ exhibition, and the “Most Beautiful Farmer” contest to showcase innovation and creativity within the agricultural sector.

At the grand finale of the celebration held on 16th October at the Police College, Ikeja, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to strengthening the state’s food systems.

He described agriculture as “a driving force for innovation and inclusive growth,” while recognising farmers as the “key components in transforming the food sector.”

In a move to support affordability and food access, the governor announced a 10% discount on Eko Rice and Eko Rice Classic, reinforcing the government’s effort to make locally produced food more accessible to Lagos residents.

The event also brought together farmers from all local government areas and local council development areas, with strong representation from the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA), fondly known as “The Farmer’s Teacher.”
