The Jigawa State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with CornTech Seeds Private Limited, an Indian company, to introduce advanced hybrid seed technology and improve farmers’ yields.
Governor Malam Umar Namadi received a delegation from the company, led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mr Venkateswarlu Yaganti, at the Government House in Dutse, where both parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC).
The agreement follows an agricultural investment tour by a Jigawa delegation to India in May, during which discussions with CornTech identified areas of collaboration.
Under the framework, CornTech will supply innovative hybrid seed varieties for maize, rice, wheat, and vegetables. The company will also collaborate with the state government to conduct multi-location trials and support research to develop seed varieties suited to Jigawa’s climate.
Governor Namadi described the partnership as a milestone for Jigawa’s agricultural transformation.
“This collaboration will be a win-win situation. Jigawa has the land, the people, and the market. What we need now is modern technology, and CornTech has the expertise,” he said.
CornTech’s CEO, Mr Yaganti, noted that Jigawa is well-positioned to replicate India’s agricultural transformation.
The partnership is expected to give Jigawa farmers access to resilient, high-yielding seeds that can withstand climate challenges while improving food security.
