The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has accredited and re-accredited 47 programmes at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja (Kogi Poly), including some backlogged applications dating back to2009.
Professor Salisu Ogbo, the Rector of Kogi Poly, made this announcement during a Stewardship Forum organised by members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Chapter.
Among the newly approved programmes is the School of Agricultural Technology at Itakpe, which now offers four specialised courses in Agricultural Technology, Animal Health and Production Technology, Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Technology, and Horticulture and Landscape Technology.
These programme are designed to equip students with practical skills to advance agriculture, livestock management, and environmental sustainability.
Professor Ogbo detailed innovations in academic administration and student assessment, saying: “Constitution of Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee, leading to proper scrutiny of results, cost effectiveness, and reduction in time wastage at the Academic Board meetings; Introduction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the conduct of the General Studies and other examinations with large classes, which has curbed unethical practices and ensured prompt release of results.”
To prevent fake results and enhance transparency, Kogi Poly has introduced a new statement of result template with advanced security features, alongside e-results computation and online display of semester results for students.
In addition to academic reforms, the Polytechnic has improved agriculture-related learning resources, including: Provision of up-to-date textbooks, journals, and e-library components, Resource inspection and accreditation of Mass Communication, Clothing and Textile Technology, and Printing Technology programs, supporting agro-based industries
Professor Ogbo also announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NASRDA, facilitating collaboration in agri-tech innovation and supporting the Department of Mechatronics Engineering Technology at the School of Engineering, Itakpe.
Professor Ogbo also emphasised enhanced academic collaboration through a linkage and affiliation with Federal University Lokoja, enabling Top-Up and Regular Undergraduate Programs leading to a First Degree in various disciplines.
