Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in agriculture as a major driver of the state’s economy.
Speaking at Owa-Ofie in Ika North East Local Government Area during the fifth phase of the agricultural inputs distribution under the D-CARES Programme’s Result Area 2 (FADAMA), the Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chairman of the State CARES Steering Committee, Mr Sonny Ekedayen, stressed the importance of boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security.
He noted that the D-CARES initiative provides essential farming inputs, builds farmers’ capacity, and strengthens economic resilience for sustainable growth.
Addressing 40 poultry farmers and 30 maize farmers benefiting from this phase, the Governor urged them to use the support effectively, apply the training received from extension workers, and share their knowledge to promote food sufficiency.
Commending the beneficiaries for their clean environment and presentation, Oborevwori described the occasion as proof of the government’s expanding support for the state’s food producers.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barrister Val Areyinka, highlighted that the programme reflects the state’s unwavering support for farmers despite economic challenges. He added that earlier phases had already boosted food availability in markets.
Delivering a goodwill message in the Ika dialect, the Chief Political Strategist to the Governor, Dr Festus Okubor, encouraged farmers to maximise the resources provided, reminding them that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
The State Coordinator of D-CARES, Dr Patience Ogbewe, represented by Mr Chris Onyenike, urged beneficiaries to meet the programme’s objectives to show appreciation for the Governor’s efforts.
Poultry farmer Mr Okonta Broderick and maize farmer Mrs Justina Erikume expressed gratitude on behalf of the community, the latter doing so with a joyful song and dance.
