The Green House project in Taraba State has achieved a remarkable milestone, celebrating its first substantial harvest of green peppers and cucumbers through innovative soil-less farming techniques.
This revival, spearheaded by Governor Agbu Kefas, aims to position Taraba as a leading centre for modern agriculture, supplying nutrient-rich vegetables to local and national markets.
Project Manager Navon Gil described the success as a turning point for the region’s agribusiness ambitions. He extolled the efficient compost-based cultivation method as a respectable sustainability attempt and a means for Taraba to be at the forefront of Nigeria’s agricultural progress.
The Green House, once on the brink of collapse due to mismanagement, has been revitalised with the help of international experts, resolving operational challenges and transforming it into a model for modern farming.
Partner Ohad Shiltman reinforced the initiative’s focus on benefiting the local market, ensuring residents have access to high-quality produce.
The project also seeks to empower local agro-preneurs by providing training and expertise, fostering economic growth in the state.
With its strategic proximity to educational institutions like Taraba State University and the College of Agriculture, the Green House is set to generate jobs while driving sustainable agricultural practices across the region.
