Ebonyi Senator Distributes Over 1,000 Bags of Rice Seedlings to Farmers
Oluwaseyi Awokunle | 16th July 2025

The Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, Kenneth Emeka Eze, has distributed farm inputs to rural farmers across the constituency to boost agricultural productivity and tackle food insecurity.

Speaking at the well-attended distribution event in his hometown in Ezza South on Monday, Eze, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Information, described the initiative as part of his commitment to the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda under the Renewed Hope initiative.

“You will agree that there is food insecurity, people are hungry, and we are trying to encourage people to go to the farm,” he said.

“The farmers we have, the food will be enough to feed the masses,” he added.

The items distributed included 1,000 bags of certified rice seedlings, 2,000 bags of solid fertiliser, and 500 cartons of liquid fertiliser.

Eze linked the intervention to ongoing agricultural reforms by both the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Francis Nwifuru.

The Governor’s administration has recently commenced distributing inputs for the 2025 farming season to support local farmers.

“This is not the last time. We did this last year, and we will continue to support our farmers to boost food production,” Eze said, assuring that the effort would be sustained.

The Senator noted that food scarcity had become a critical concern in recent years, but said such interventions already had some impact.

“There used to be a time when there was absolute food scarcity; even if you had the money, you could not find food to buy. However, today, with the combined efforts of the government at all levels, farm produce is increasing and food is becoming more available,” he said.

The event drew farmers and stakeholders from across the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, who welcomed the inputs as timely, ahead of the current planting season.
