Food Security: FG, Nasarawa Set to Distribute Free Fertilisers to Over 70,000 Farmers
Oluwaseyi Awokunle | 9th July 2025

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Government, has launched a fertiliser distribution initiative aimed at boosting food security and supporting agricultural development in the state.

The initiative, which was flagged off in Lafia, the state capital, will provide free fertiliser to 74,800 farmers across all 147 political wards in the state.

Each ward has been allocated 500 bags of fertiliser, while each of the 13 Local Government Areas will receive 100 bags.

The project, tagged “Each Farmer to a Bag of Fertiliser”, is part of efforts to boost productivity during the 2025 cropping season.

Governor Abdullahi Sule speaking at the launch event, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating the fertiliser distribution and emphasised that the gesture would go a long way in boosting farming activities and improving food sufficiency both in Nasarawa and across the country.

“Today, we are commencing the 2025 cropping season and distributing fertiliser to our farmers in the state. Let me at this moment appreciate President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for this gesture of free fertiliser to the state,” the governor said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting agribusiness, stating that the state had already cultivated 2,000 hectares of rice in Jangwa, Awe LGA, and planned to add 3,500 hectares in Danka/Ayarkeke, Obi LGA, this year.

He noted that the fertiliser would be given to farmers free of charge, with no cost involved.

The governor also issued a strong warning against any diversion of the input, declaring that anyone found culpable in mismanaging the distribution process would be held accountable.

“Let me categorically warn that those handling the distribution of the fertiliser and other farming inputs will be held responsible for any anomaly in the distribution of the commodities in their respective Local Government,” he added.

To further support agricultural development, Governor Sule also assured the public that his administration would continue to invest in improved farm inputs, provide agrarian equipment, and strengthen the state’s security architecture to enable farmers to work without fear of harm.
